Hi,

Has anybody seen this?

http://www.weekendhobby.com/offroad/kia/Question.asp?ID=1828

About 1/2 way down is a Limited Slip for the front.

Does anybody on the forum read Korean?

more than likely, that is the rear Miata limited slip we learned about nearly 6 months ago. it is rare and discontinued. it can only be found in boneyards and maybe Miata performance shops. maybe try eBay. the unit is not that great, either, supposedly, it only offers about a 20% torque split.

Hi Dave,

That doesn't look like the Miata Torsen. And we don't know for sure if the Miata Torsen will fit the Sporty. (we do know the ring and pinion will fit)

By the way, it's the early Miata clutch type limited slip that has only about 20% torque bias. The early one will not fit the Sporty, it has a much smaller ring and pinion.

The later Miata limited slip (94+) is the one that might fit the front of the sporty and it has 200 or 300% torque bias.

The Miata Torsen LSD is not very hard to find but it is almost always over $450. That's beyond my budget for something that only "might" fit.

ok, from what i remember from the discussion was that the front Sportage 3rd member and the rear Miata 3rd member were the exact same unit, but i could be mistaken. also, i recall there being a discussion about what size our front R&P is- i measured it at it's widest point to be about 6-1/4 to 6-3/8" diameter, not the 7" mentioned by the solomiata guy. and as for the rear, it was rumored to be a 7.5" ring gear, and i am almost certain that is not right either. like everything else we discuss here, the only way to be sure about any of this equipment is to get it and see if it fits, period.

Body Damage is Cool
I checked and the part numbers for the Sportage front R&P and the Miata rear R&P are the same except for the gear ratio. The part numbers for the Sportage rear R&P and the rear RX7 are the same except for the gear ratio. The guy and the Mazda dealer didn't want to help me anymore after I told him why I was checking this out so I couldn't get any info one the limited slips.

What we really need to find out is if the Miata open diff is the same part as the Sporty front diff. If they are, then the LSD will fit.
