Does anyone else see a rash of Mazda Miatas up on blocks missing their rear diffs? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I just found one at a Mazda Salvage yard. $900 big ones. I'll keep searching. I would like to know which year the T1 came in and what year Ron's is. The guy at mazda told me that the 94/95 and the 96/97 would fit but he did not know the difference. The one above is for a 2001. Might be the reason for the high price. He was at Mazmart in Atlanta and said that it was 26 spline and should work. He said the 93 and older had the vicous ?sp.

Hi Keith and Morgan,

I think it is for a '94. It is a T-1. I think the T-2 came out mid '95. The T-2 might be SLIGHTLY stronger but the T-1 is SLIGHTLY more agressive. Any '94 and newer Miata diff. should fit. There is also a RX-7 clutch type LSD that will also fit. It was in some of the non-turbo models.

The '93 and older Miata had a much smaller diff (6" ring gear) and will NOT fit.

Unfortunatly, most Miatas have an open diff, not the Torsen LSD.

Is this for sure? From pictures I've seen of the RX-7, it looks a little bit different... of course the T-1 for the RX-7 operates like the T-1 for the Miata - Helical gear system - not clutch (at least this one.).

Hi Morgan,

The lower picture looks like a Torsen from a RX-7 Turbo model. None of the RX-7 Turbo diffs will fit the Sportage. They are 8" ring gear, different splines etc.

Yeah, I know that's where I got my picture. I want that LSD... Too bad I need new tires...

On the bright side, though, I finished my light bar for the Sportage. Looks good. I'll have to post some pics when I get it on my vehicle.

The snap ring that I used for the Torsen conversion was Mazda M005-27-421.
