Incorrect... An engine is like a big air pump; The more air you can move in (and consequently out), the more power you'll make. As for the stock intake, try to imagine a marathon runner breathing thru a straw. The deckplate mod allows for a larger volume of air to enter the box, hence lowering the effort your engine has to exert to pull the air in.
