Got Yogurt? Offline OP
Need a Spot
Does anyone know when the trooper started coming with the new type of a/c coolant instead of the old type (i.e. CFC-Free)? I'm in Canada so they wont let us fill up the old type, only the new type (I believe the old type is R12, and the new type is HC134a). Sorry the question is so vague, I searched and got now answer and thanks in advance <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

1993 seems to be the transition year. My 93 Trooper has R-12 A/C, but many 93's have the R-134. Depends on what month the vehicle was built in 1993.

The easiest way to tell if it is r-12 or r-134a is to go out and look at the a/c lines. If the low side connector is threaded, then it is r-12. If the low side connector is a quick disconnect, then it is r-134a. If it is r-12, then you must 'techincally' get it vacuumed out by a shop that will reclaim it, then get you one of the retrofit kits that will adapt it to r-134a. It would also be best to replace the drier before you retrofit it, but most people don't and never see a problem, at least right away.

or just pop open the hood and look on the drivers side fire wall, it will say with a yellow sticker. You can have it switched to r-135a easily.
