I believe the 4.10s were in the 2wd Gen I Rodeos. I don't know if there was a gear difference between the two trannys though.

Actually, I thought the 2wd Rodeos came with 4.56s, and I think they were all 4 cyl.

Like everyone said, autos have their good points, and so does manual. Here's a big one for me-
new clutch for manual tranny= 250 for clutch, 300-400 install
Automatic rebuild= 2000+ <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Yah automatics will give you good crawl ability without stalling, but I think teralows will even out the stick. Go ahead and try it out, see how you like it, at least.

Nice tires. I have the same ones on my rodeo. The guy who installed the tires asked where I got the tires cause he said they didnt look like the goodyear RT/S's. Its a nice tread for dry and wet pavement and snow and mud. Those tires pulled me through everything. Sorry to hi=jack, just making an awesome observation <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Thats a very very nice trooper too. Though Im partial to the Rodeos

Ahh Teralows would be really nice <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/coolg.gif" alt="" /> Just think of the crawl I could get out of my troop with those and the auto tranny. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Truthfuly you're better off learning to wheel a stick. That way if you change your mind and want an auto later you wont have to relearn to wheel. My first 4wd was a manual and I... don't miss it a bit. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Seriously though You have a good troop now so the hard part is done, now just down shift and wave bye bye to the civilized world <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />


There's three troopers with autos in the junk yard by me so no rebuild is necessary just swap and go for about the same price as a clutch rebuild. Oh yeah I got it like that <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

thanks for all the feedback. Im seeing that the GENERAL consensus here is that a stick is better. I can always change later. Besides someone else already got the one down the road. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> but the black one in savannah looks like a beauty. when people talk about crawl ration they are mostly talkig about rock crawling, or easin over things. Ya, autos are way better for crawling (in my opinion) but.... if you like the mud and hill climbing, you better stick with the manual. Reason is if you want the wheel spin popping the clutch is a good thing to use. Or if you want to pop a wheely clutch will also help <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I can't be sure on the TD axle ratio since I never checked, but I had to put 31x10.5x15's just so I could cruise 65mph @ 3000rpm. (now where's that formula?)
