I just noticed on Toyota's website that the 2005 Tundra has:
4.7-liter DOHC 32-valve EFI V8 with VVT-i
282 hp @ 5400 rpm
325 lb.-ft. @ 3400 rpm

and options:
[*]limited slip differential (only w/4x2 TRD sport package)
[*]6-speed manual overdrive transmission (only w/V6)
[*]Touch-screen DVD navigation system
[*]JBL 3-in-1 AM/FM Cassette/6-disc in-dash CD changer with eight speakers
[*]Heated seats

Towing package:
[*]Class IV towing hitch receiver
[*]heavy-duty 130-amp alternator
[*]supplemental transmission oil cooler
[*]7-pin connector with converter

But, I want all that stuff...

5400 rpm is kinda high for a truck, they must have upped the red-line a bit.
My '02 4.7L makes 245 hp @ 4800 rpm.
The new engine does make 37 additional ft-lb @ the same 3400 rpm my '02 peaks.

The big engine Tundra won't be available till '06 as an '07.

I would like to see a dyno print out for that engine, cause your right 5400 rpms is high for a truck. I know on the smaller car engines the vvti skews the hp and tourqe curves putting the max hp in the upper rpm band. I think toyota would be better off upping the displacement to say 5.4 or so.

What is this crap with the limited slip just in the 4x2 I wish they would see that there are alot of people like us that use our truck for what they are, and not some glorified mall machine.

Oh well...

Sucks the 6-speed is only available on the v6, but at least that 4l v6 is an improvement over what we've got now. And they already made an sc for it too! I imagine that thing probably can kick some a$$ with the added spacing in the ratio. Wonder if the bellhousing is interchangeable or if someone will come out with an adapter for the 3.4... Could be interesting. Or better yet, swap in the 4l & tranny!

Wasn't there some talk from Toyota about a 5-speed auto for the big one?

The mileage for the man6spd is less than the MPG for the Auto5spd. Odd...

There is no mention of a S/C for the 4.0ltr. And TRD's USA pages have nothing mentioned of a 4.7Ltr S/C (only parts like ECU, belt...)

Is there a 4.7Ltr S/C? Why doesn't TRD list it?

Hell, a 245HP V6 is plenty. And in Manual? About time. But why hasn't Toyota hit the 300+HP mark? Everyone else has. Or will we see a (retarded) S/C for the new 2005? Maybe a 50% HP/Torque boost? That would be sweet to see a 420HP Truck...ofcourse, it would be an auto tranny.

I think I'd like to see Toyota come out with a hybrid V8-Diesel with HD suspension. That would take some market from Ford, Chevy and DDDDodge

It was pulled from the shelves by TRD.
NO LONGER AVAILABLE. ECU issues.

An updated version for the current 4.7L is slated for a Halloween release...

Since the new VVT-I has a plastic intake manifold and air-injection I'm not sure if they have a new blower ready for it.

For street performance you can't beat the '05 regular cab 2WD V8

Just looking at their site & noticed that both the 6-speed manual and 4.0l motor are only available on the 2wd versions... The only available engine/tranny on 4wd models is auto & 4.7l.

I just was reading my Sept issue of FOURWHEELER and they just did a review of a '04 4Runner that has the 4.7 w/ TRD S/C and 5 speed slushbox. (353 hp @ 5,200 rpm & 359 lb-ft torque @ 5,200 rpm). So if they disco'd the S/C on the 4.7, I guess I will have to spend the $48,336 some where else.
