 Rear window not working on 98' Runner

Twenty questions... Is the rear window on a 98' supposed to operate with the key? I know this works with 1st and 2nd generations, but mine has never worked with the key. Are all the windows on the same fuse? side and rear windows all on one curcuit? Which fuse operates the rear? How do I check the rear window switch? The rear window should work via the key. There is maybe a five second delay.

The key doesn't make it work either and hasn't since I've owned it. My plan is to remove the rear door cover with my special door panel tool and see if the ground wire is disconnected or not.

I have no idea about the fuse the rear window is on, check the owner's manual though, they have a trouble shooting guide. Also does the rear window go down using the switch in the center console? If so you can isolate the problem to the keyed switch in the rear hatch.

No, window has never worked via key and it used to work with inside switch. I've owned this Runner since last Dec. Both circuits are toast at the moment, all other windows work fine.

I had the same problem over the winter where my rear window wouldn't respond via the center console switch. It would however roll down using the remote. I've never tried rolling it down via the key....I'll give it a try tonight and get back to you.

I'll check out the link. Yesterday, I checked all fuses, remote switch and power to the switch...all good. I also pulled off the rear door panel, lots to look at, but I don't know where to start. The repair manual that I have doesn't show anything about the rear window workings. Any suggestions? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" /> Hugh

Hugh Uh, I hate to ask something stupid ... but with the lift gate on the Gen3 4Runners I thought the rear window was fixed and didn't roll up or down. That was a feature for those of us for tailgates. Am I wrong here?

Hugh Uh, I hate to ask something stupid ... but with the lift gate on the Gen3 4Runners I thought the rear window was fixed and didn't roll up or down. That was a feature for those of us for tailgates. Am I wrong here? The rear glass does go into the gate.
