2) I've generally had a Mitsu purist mind set. ...says the man with a Land Rover Discoverer ladder on one Monte, and Quest seats in the other. Neither one seem too "pure".
Two MRI's and a CAT scan....it's confirmed. I'm just not right in the head.

Touche, on the ladder, but the seats are as Mitsu as the Raider... (And I didn't mean my original comment disparagingly, if anyone took it that way. )

ok bit the bullet and plasma'd the front spring shackle bushings in the frame i will have to use full 4"width shackle and offset the spring to the outside cause it is near the stock trans mount location and frame is angled outwards there, also finsih welded the front spring hanger-pics later
ps have the 2.6 w/ new chains and the trans,t/case and diffs for sale, basically everything that i unbolted for this swap!

It is too much trouble having drums than disc when off-roading. so far that project looks good Forgot: did you have a 5spd in thta rig, is it in good shape? how $$$ for it? PM me

I can underestand you wanting to go SAS depending on the type of wheeling that you do, but I sure don't understand your other choices. 1. your giving up a torquey 2.6 for a 2.2/2.4 toy motor??? 2. What trans are you using? 3. Using the Mitsu. alternator (50Amp) is really the wrong way to go, whats wrong with using the toy alt? 4. "80" front axle????...thats the model that bent alot on the PU's and the front end of the Montero is heavier then the Toy PU. Why not do it once and put in the strongest front axle you can, like the '84/85' unit. 5. Most that want a SAS want it for rock crawling. Your gears are worse then a stock Montero, and with a motor that puts out less torque then a stock Montero, what exactly are you going to do with this thing when you finish it? 6. If this is a rock crawler, then tell us about the 'winch mount' up front, Its not permenant I hope.
Just my opinion, but I see this as something to do, and not something that is going to improve the rig, and to me that is not the way that I want to spend my free time. Kary

Pretty cool. Cool to see someone doing something different.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

1st those arent drums it is surface rust on the rotors 2nd the montero motor had 200,000 3rd 2.6 may be torquey but weighs a ton 4th as for front end weight i cut it down( see #3) and the 84/85 front end just has a longer gusset( i have that diff too) as for weight total they cant weigh much more than a sidekick and they run a 1.6lt 5th ALL toyota running gear, geared 4.37 in now and more raios available 6th not a rock crawler but will be climbing mountain trails 7th since when is a yota motor "not good" 8th see hanger minus winch HERE!9th the SAS is because IFS sucked ass off camber 10th i will probably upgrade the alt later but didnt want to rewire for yota alt/reg type 11th thanks for all the comments, sure some may be valid but i have it under control for West coast type of wheeling (p.s.) this WILL improve the rig not just "something to do" picture: same trail a samurai and a montero, sami makes it up montero dont why? flex of a solid axle and leafs, hope i've answered all your questions 12th sparkem thanks for the compliment!

My statements were not meant as an attack, just questions. heres some more. have you ever weighed a Toy motor??? just wondering, as I have weighed the Montero motor, and I'd like to know just what the difference is. In your response you state that the Mitsu motor had 200k on it? Earlier you said it had chains, and a head gasket at 225,00 and has ~229,00 on it, with no smoking and it starts right up. How about some compression/leakdown numbers for those that might be interested in it. I never said that a toy motor "wasn't" good, but it doesn't make the same torque as the mitsu motor, and the toy motor that you say you are putting in is an '84'? So how many miles on this motor so we can compare it to the mileage on the Mitsu motor. Stock Mitsu axles are 4.625, so the toy axles are not as low as stock. You say that the IFS sucked on off camber? and you think that a SAS will be better? This is interesting as with improved wheel travel, there is usually a loss in "perceved" stability on side hills. Please let us know when you finish this. Don grew up on the island, and I'm close, and we'll come up and wheel with you. it will be interesting to see the differences between your rig and ours. Kary
