very interesting, kinda looks like nobody took the idea all the way to fruition. Too easy to pursue other options I guess.

I know that inchworm (toyota guy) is looking for some donor isuzu tcases so that he can play around with making some adapters. If I had a spare I would send one in a heart beat.

I am with the other guys on this one koby. Get tera's first and then start in on the dual cases. I am almost done with my adaptor plate for mine. I need to get ahold of some more metal to make a new crossmember, then all that is left is the drive shafts(which i need a new rear anyway) and a little chopping on my front tcase <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />. Basically I am still in the early stages.

With an autimatic just install the Tera Lows and put your money in the bank. Dual cases are nice to have for bragging rights but you'll find you won't use all the gears you've spent your hard earned mney on. I haven't used my double down gears on my Rodeo on anything but to show off I've got them. Most of my best trail climbs have been done in the 4:70 T gears. Double compund is better suited for dragging the trencher blades and breaking rearend gears. Your torque converter will give you all the finess you'll need with the Tera Gears.

Yup -- I agree with Curtis for 99% of the time. I have used my stupid-low (211:1) in a handful of situations, but it was always an optional obstacle. It is very fun to move so slowly that you can drive up on two wheels over an obstacle and be completely in control, and fun to use engine torque to dial in the angle of attck whilst creeping, but it ain't necessary. That said, it certainly is *nice*.

I've 'wheeled an auto in front of a set of Teras, and I had damn near the same control. The slip in the torque converter makes up for an awfuyl lot... but you do have to learn to two-foot the controls for the finest degree of adjustment. I prefer my manual tranny and multiple transfer cases, but that's just that, a PREFERENCE.

This is probably a little cryptic for most . . .

I don't have any pix, either, as I recall, I was tailgunning and folks only turned around to look because they heard a 4ZE1 revving, valves floating, and wondered why. The wheelstand happened quick enough to evade capture on film.

I was descending a pretty steep bit on Hole in the Rock, playing with my newly-installed low-low-low transmission and transfer case gears, just idling steeply downward against engine compression and feeling SUPREMELY in control. I was having so much fun that I failed to notice the large hole that I drove the front wheel into. I *did* however notice the end-over that it caused, so I stomped on the gas to motor out of it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/coolg.gif" alt="" />
...the problem was that I was still in stupid-low, chugging along in 211:1. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
Over-the-ground speed at idle is slow... and floored, engine screaming, it really ain't much faster. I felt both rear wheels come up and felt the truck start to twist a little bit before the front wheel hit the bottom of the hole and started to push back. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> UZI bicycled for what seemed like forever (later reports estimated this at mebbe a second or two at most), and then the rear end started to come back down, luckily, only a little bit sideways. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/mrt.gif" alt="" />
When all four wheels got good and planted, I took my foot out of redline, and shifted out of silly-low, feeling lucky, stupid, and relieved all at once.

The moral to this story: EVERYTHING goes slow *IN* the truck at those kinds of wheelspeeds, but the truck can move much faster relative to the terrain, wheelspeed notwithstanding.

John and I have been talking about doing that trip again with at least an extra day to explore.

Most of the muscles in my body were occupied by standing on the accelerator and attempting to inhale the seat cushion... but from my armchair, years later, I can also suggest a better reason, which was not on my mind at the time -- coasting too far downhill with the clutch disengaged would have quickly over-revved my clutch friction plate and put friction bits into orbit! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />

I've seen and heard this once on the slabs by Loon Lake, and it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> definitely <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> got my attention!
