I took the lockring with me to my local auto parts store, and matched it up with a 3/4t GM socket (GM one has 4 teeth). Bought it, brought it home and grinded off the two extra teeth on the socket. Works fine.

I did this too. Had the tool from when I owned a few GM 4x4s. Sold the last one 24 years ago (a 1972 GMC 1/2 ton with Q78s) so I figured I wouldn't have a short term need for the GM tool :-)


i thought about that, but im not doing it till this weekend and the prices at the local part store looked more expensive ($20) and they dont have it in stock, so i just bought the 6 prong one off of ebay...i hope this is the right one you guys are talking about
