A couple of questions:
1. What is the Warn Hub Part Number ?

2. Are they fairly easy to replace?

Yes, as long as your 6 hub bolts aren't frozen in place. Mine were so I had my local mechanic do it.

3. Are there any special tools or pullers needed to get the original vacuum hubs off and Warn hubs on.

No, although a pair of snap ring pliers are helpful.

4. What do you do with the old vacuum hoses & connections.

Disconnect and tape back the electrical connector to the vacuum soleniod. The vacuum soleniod is located on the fender behind the air filter. The electrical connector comes up from the bottom. Leave all the vacuum lines by the soleniod in place. Remove the vacuum lines in each fender between the fenderwell and the hub. You can leave the vacuum line in the fenderwell open. It does not have to be plugged because no vacuum will be drawn since the soleniod is disconnected. Just cut off the vacuum lines at the bracket on the strut. You MUST plug the vacuum port on the back of the wheel hub. I used a screw with waterproof automotive goop glue.

do the auto mechanicals work like the vacs did, because i found them still for sale and im gonna jump on em if theyre worth it

If you like the amenity of automatic operation and you are decided to avoid abuse, the mechanical auto are fine: mine work perfectly in that context and will last because I know their limits and will not go over. If you have a bargain on them, do not forget that they come as a kit containing 4 parts for each side: hub, spindle nut, lock pin, cam activator. ALL 4 are essential. I have posted the installation instructions with photos at www.avigex.ca/hubinstall

If you live in snow country where you'll be driving significant distances in 4WD and on road I recommend you skip the auto hubs and go directly to the manuals. I speak from experience. I had the older 95-97 style autolocking hubs for about 4 years and one of them started to get funky about a year and a half ago and this past December destroyed itself. I never used 4WD on dry or wet pavement and always insured against driveline lockup in tight turns by shifting to 2H.

Body Damage is Cool
I have had the manual hubs for, oh, probably around 3 years now. I have done a LOT of offroading, nothing as hard-core as Dave, but my hubs have had zero problems. I think they are a lot more reliable and rugged than mech-autos.

I agree, this is not a religion for me: if I did offroading, I would opt for the manuals.

This is a .pdf document. DO you have Adobe ACrobat Reader installed? You need that to be able to read.

Lou,

For the Vacuum auto hubs (1998 & on)does the Warn manual hub kit come with a new hublock assembly which replaces the original one (step 11 of your installation PDF)? I am assuming that you now have to get out of the car and lock the front hubs by hand, a procedure which was not required on the original vacuum hubs. Can anyone post a picture of what the replaced hub & wheel looks like.

thanks,
Hamk
