IMHO, unless he is doing burnouts running slicks, or heavy slick swampers, with a locker, he shoudl see a while of life out of that rear axle. The fronts will not like all that power, especaillly 17 splines...

IF, it comes down to it, get a matching set of 44s out of a jeep wagoneer(I believe thats the preferable one)... and upgrade to some 35 spline axles.

Heck, why not go with 60s whiel you are at it....

That LS1 is gonna put some serious torque doqn low, and I know the newer 44 axles have a small "narrow spot" between the splines and the rest of the axle,that acts as a small torsion spot...helping to prevent hard breaks....
