Ok so I am going to be looking at a very clean 1990 xj limited. My 1st Jeep since my j10 in the 70s.
Main question is what kind of gas milage should I expect to get from this Jeep? It will replace my 4runner as a DD also.
Its all stock, 100k on it, auto trans and the i6, command track, any comments fireaway, fill me in and what I should expect.

Body Damage is Cool
alot better than the j10 but seriously in my 89 i get roughly and i do mean roughly 20 mpg im guessing that because it hasnt been running great due to issues it had(crank sensor, fuel pressure regulater, coil, and throttle position sensor) but all of that is stright now oh and guys i didnt need a trans my tps was still a little off giving it a slipping feeling. but before i was going about 120miles on 15 gal i always filled up at 1/4 tank and i noticed when i filled up last week i was at 158 so i will let you know how well i do at next refill .

i pretty much listed the main problems they have except the fuel pump that is the other issue which i resolved already. they do great in the snow for the past 2 winters while the snow was about 2 ft deep i would go out and play around in it and i notice that not many of the high dollar suv's was out although i did see one hummer stuck but im sure it was due to driver error and false security and a couple of times the people that plowed the parking lot at the apt pushed it behind my jeep and since i didn't have anything to dig it out i just locked it in 4 low and went and the snow wasnt too deep then just about 3 foot
so all in all in my oppinion you should do well and be very happy with the xj

out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine

I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing

My 90' gets 15.5 (16.5 if you add in speedo error)MPG. granted that is a good mix of highway and city. It is also turning 31's MTRs load range E, they weigh as much as my 33's did. Both of my 88's I had did about the same, both had 31's, all had high miles. One with over 230k, one with 190k and the 90' with 205k.

I have a little over 3.5k miles on my 04 Rubicon 5 speed and I'm only getting a little over 16 mpg. Now granted it has 4.10 gear ratio and all the other factory stuff but I thought I would end up getting a little better than that. I did my first oil change and switched to synthetic. I'm not really going to pay attention to the mileage for another couple thousand mile and by then the engine should be completely broke in...

It's broke in now GP! You've got what you are gonna get.
Remember that is the formost offroad vehicle you could purchase! It is shaped like a shoebox and cannot be expected to get better than that... I question the mathamatical abilities of those that claim much more than that!

Mine's a 96 xj with 151k 16 gal tank, 31 inch tires and 3 inch. i get 310 on a tank full and thats 19 mpg on the highway, not bad for a mild modificated engine.
