Getting the Wheeling Fever

I have an 87 runner that is leakin gear oil from the fill nut. my question is, what is the best oil to put back in it, and should I replace the washer/crush washer between the diff and bolt on the fill hole, or just torq the snot out of it. I have a pic, but need to get it hosted if someone needs to see it. thanks.
