After the head/cam/chain install last week, I poured in Mobile One and screwed on a Mobile One filter...

I'll change it soon and pour in more Mobile One.

It's cheap insurance. I have used nothing but Mobile One for over 15 years in everything including my lawn mowers.

Take it back to the installer and go on record with him about the noise. If it breaks, then you will have that to fall back on.

P.S. My engine is an ATK reman. Whatever they do to them, that's what's been done.

Sounds like you bought a darned good warranty(without me reading the tiny print)

Don't twist any wrenches on it and invalidate that warranty.

Take it back to installer and play dumb. Complain about the noise. If the installer blows you off, send certified letter to engine maker. That will serve as your record of complaint for later if you need it.

Be polite, but insistant. Keep your ducky's all in a row.

I just pulled off the cover and I believe the timing chain guides are still intact. Seeing that they are intact...what else could be making that noise? It is identical to the noise I heard when I was missing the guides on my old engine...

Thanks,

Rich

did you take that pic?
if so all i see is the top part of the guide
i see no guide between the chain and the cover mine looked just like that the only part of the guide left was the top and my cover was about 1-8th chewed.Just my 2cents

i just did mine took 8 hours mostly takeing the power steering pump and alt off and back on (pain in the A$$)
probly 1 hour off and three to put it back on
Any way good luck
Sil

Yep, took that picture this morning...there didn't seem to be anything missing...

Checking the timing...it's fine.
Changed the oil, new filter...still makes noise.

Guess I'll have to take it back to those a**es...and dig through my paperwork to find the "invoice" showing that I still have four months left on the labor warranty.

Rich

P.S. My warranty was 1 year labor, 3 years parts (unlim miles)...

I have the same noise in my truck. Under load up hill, especially in a higher gear where the rpms are lower... I replaced the timing chain, and guides about 20K ago, and now it sound sorta the same as it did( but not as bad because the guides were completely gone then)

Body Damage is Cool
make sure the propper bolt is in the top oil pump (as pictured ) [Linked Image]
the hole from the inside ....

wrong bolt

if you have the wrong bolt installed in this place , it will hinder the movement of the tensioner .

Did you reach down in there and see if the guide moved at all? Mine looked just like yours, but I could move it left to right and it would slap against the TC cover and make the noise I was hearing.

Turns out the top bolt loop for the guide was broken, but other than that the guide was still intact.

Just something to think about.
