I haven't actually talk to him yet, but the owner told me that they aren't getting any power to the fuel pump. When is he measureing for power at the pump? In stock mode, its only present while starting or with the engine actually running. With the jumper I mentioned, it'll come on any time the ignition is on, engine running or not.

Just got the word its the fuel pump <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> not sure what they put in there a couple of years ago but it only lasted about 8k miles. Can you get one that mounts externally? This is getting old and I really don't want to go through this again <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> Also I'm guessing that OEM is better than Bosch, or does it really make that much difference?

I've replaced mine twice over the years and the last time I replaced it, I cut an access door right over the fuel pump. I've dropped the tank for fuel pump replacement and to do some frame welding and the last time my fuel pump went, I refused to drop the tank again and decided to put the door in. The trap door also alows for easy cleaning of that concaved area where the fuel pump sits.

Did you go OEM or Bosch?

The last one I put in was from a local foreign auto parts place and I don't recall the brand name. I remember it was made in Japan but that means about nothing. Lately, If $$ warrent it, I but OEM.

Whatever you do, do not replace the original starter unless its completely worn out. The Denso starter will last many 100's of thousands of miles and only need periodic replacement of the copper solenoid contacts. It is so easy and inexpensive to replace them and the reliability (or lack thereof) of a typical parts-store "rebuilt" starter is so variable that you are far better off fixing what came on the engine instead of replacing it.
