1992 3.0 5 speed, not dailey driver but still drives alot. A couple of months ago, I had a short in a wire behind the dash and blew the efi fuse. Once I fixed that, the speed senosr blew so I have no speedometer which was fine because the tach still worked properly. Today, I drove it to school and everyting was normal. After it sat for 9hrs or so, it started fine and drove 1/4 mile or so, then noticed when ever I let off the gas, it sounded like something was dragging on the ground (metal on concrete). I asume it is the cat converter gone bad. There is 75 to 90% loss of power so going up any hill was unbearably slow. Next my tach goes out on the same drive home while going slow for 10 miles or so till I made it home. I tried to roll up the power windows and nothing. So I tried to replace the gauges fuse (the gauges and power windows are on the same fuse I beleive) and blew it as soon as I tried to roll up the window. The only thing different in the last couple of days driving the runner was the speedometer was bouncing around between 0 and 60, flickering rapidly sometimes. Before it did nothing. So any ideas.
1. It the cat the solution for solving the power problems 2. Would the flickering speedometer blow the gauges fuse, should I disconnect this untill I replace it (which may be in a couple of months) 3. What can I do to at least roll my power windows up for the time being
Cheers Sid Crocker
Oh, what a average price to replace the cat and O2 sensor.
