I now have the Koni strut inserts and I am in process of making a pair of longer than stock struts with them. I will make them 3/4" or 1" longer than stock but I could make them up to 3" or 4" longer than stock. I am taking pictures.

Update.
The Koni inserts are a lot beefier than the stock ones. The Koni's are 40mm in diameter and the Stock ones are only 32.5mm dia.
The Koni shafts are about 16mm and the stock shafts are 12.5mm.
I have one of the strut housings cut and I am doing a trial fit.

Hi Morgan,
So far so good. I have a few pictures but no where to post them.
I think 3/4" to 1" longer would be perfect with Eibach springs. 1.125" longer for Dave's 4" lift springs (if you don't use his upper strut mounts). Anything more than that would require a lower A-arm relocation cradle but a 3" longer strut still seems stable.

Anything more than that would require a lower A-arm relocation cradle but a 3" longer strut still seems stable. Wonder how hard that would be to machine... The Sportage would make a very comfortable trail and street machine if we could somehow fabricate new A-arms (something similar to the Toyota 6 inch lift kit...). If anybody's got any ideas I'd sure be interested in hearing them.

Wait a minute... Not all Toyota IFS lift kits have new A-arms... Don't most of them has a metal spacer-thingy (that's technical-speak for those of you that don't know what I'm talking about. )? Maybe something like that would work...
Just brainstorming...

ball joint spacer i can make tube a-arms, but somebody needs to find me a bolt-on ball joint that wil fit the top of the spindle so i know what to go by for bolt holes.

Here is my first attempt at inserting a picture. This is the stock strut with the damper removed and the KONI damper below it. ![[Linked Image]](http://pics.montypics.com/WD8CDH/2004-09-28/1096377076_Strut.jpg) Notice how much beefier the KONI is.

Is that what they're called?... Okay - makes sense. Thanks. i can make tube a-arms, but somebody needs to find me a bolt-on ball joint that wil fit the top of the spindle so i know what to go by for bolt holes.
Oooooooo... That would be very cool. Bolt-on ball joint? Hmmmm... We may be able to find one from a lift manufacturer that supplies replacement parts...

I will make them 3/4" or 1" longer than stock but I could make them up to 3" or 4" longer than stock. I am taking pictures. How do you plan to make them longer? I'm going to be installing some spacers and that would be a good time to do that. How much were the Koni struts?
