Hmmmm... The gap is confusing me, to be honest. The ARB front from my ex's 94 4Runner bolted right up to my 86 w/o no problem whatsoever. It fit for-aft just fine. I don't ebelieve there is any difference in the 3rd gen pickup/2nd gen 4Runner front frame horns - that is, I don't believe they protrude any farther. That being said, the captured nuts tha you originally bolted it to may be in a different place do to the new front body mounts they put on the 89+ trucks...

Regardelss, your solution is somehat similar to what I did on my 86 after I built the new drop front hanger.
