I wanna try to clean up my intake on my RE, and am wondering whats the best method. The intake is pretty dirty and dont want it sticking out like a sore thumb with a fresh rebuilt engine.

Thanks

>>>*If you can find a local machine shop that uses hot soaker tanks for spray booth washers, perhaps they will sell you a small amount of Sodium Metasilicate powder.

It is what we use. Simply mix a couple of tablespoons in about a pint of hot water. Wear gloves, the stuff is caustic to virgin hands.

It degreases aluminum very well without etching, brightens the metal up nicely. Severe stains take some brushing......*EB

if your interested, http://rides800.tripod.com/jamarprecisionproducts/

i will start with glass beading it, steam it, then degrease, mask and then powdercoat.

Household oven cleaner works wonders on aluminum.

I used it to clean up my intake on 22r and it cut through some pretty grody stuff.

Wear gloves and use in a ventilated area as oven cleaner is also very caustic.

my uncle and cousin do a/c and refrigeration repair. they use this stuff called nubrite(spell?). some kind of acid that (i think) doesnt eat aluminum. i will ask them.
