I think im gonna try looking for a 2nd gen trooper. I am more than happy with my 93 rodeo, and like the 3.2 powerplant, but want a change. I will be using it as an around town rig with some long drives... How does the milage compare to the rodeo... I assume the trooper is heavier not too mention less aerodynamic. I will also be towing with this trooper, a car hauler with 3 quads on it (the quads weigh 12-1300 pounds themselves) not sure how much a 16' car hauler weighs... How will it handle this... Electric brakes are going to be used... Which brings me to another question, why does the trooper have a 1000 pound heavier towing capacity? Is it just frame structure or wheelbase? Arent the troopers dana 44s in the rear?

Sorry for all the questions, i would have searched but my comp keeps crashing when I try to do so...

2nd gen troops have a 12bolt rear, 4.56 gearing, adn a longer wheel base.

I am very willing to bet the higher rating is combined from teh gearing and the longer wheel base...

The 3.2 with 33s leaves a little to be desired for power in the mountians, but until my vurrent issues, I was actually getting ABOUT 16-18 mpg witht he 33s and 4.56s(based on gas used and un corrected odometer)...

I think you shouldnt have a problem around town, or towing a small trailer..

Tad towed a boat from the Keys, up to NC witht his troop..in stick form... without issue...

If you are gonna lift it, it would definaltye be in your best interest to regear with larger tires...

I'm not sure about the wheelbase thing
This past weekend:
We all measured a 1st gen troop,2nd gen troop,1st gen rodeo and a 2nd gen rodeo and I may be mistaken but they were
all within 2" of each other.Granted this was eyeballed with a tape measure.

You'll certainly find that Troopers are much more stylish and attract more attention from the ladies.

lol

Im going to be pulling at most about 3,000lbs. 3 quads at 1200 and a car hauler 1,400-1,600 pounds plus gear and random stuff will put me at about 3,000 or so...How is the trooper gonna like me after I put it throw hauling 3000 pounds? Granted most of it will be level ground, but there is some hills where I ride and one place has me going over a pass....
