Body Damage is Cool
my guide was gone at 84,000, though. not sure what the PO did to it, but it was toast when i bought it (though i didn't know that at the time ).

so yeah, typically you would not need to worry about the t-chain for quite a while, but once in awhile they go early.

Lucky you. If I were to get a 'newer' Toy, a 94 would be it. Last of the 22R series engines before they went to the 2.7 and 3.4, and still had the Aisin hubs. With a $3800 trade in and a sticker price of $10K, it dang sure ought to have a new engine or tranny in it at the very least!!!

In the rust belt, get under there and take a GOOD look around. This is a box frame, so there are places rust can hide. Good luck and have fun. Lots of talent here in Yota land.

There is an old saying, my friend...."You make money when you buy something, not when you sell it."

That's what car dealers and real estate brokers live by. Right?

Why should you be different? Screw their idiot price. Let an idiot buy it at that.

I made money this week when I bought a classic truck for $500. Once I invest $160 to fix it, it will be worth $2000 if I decide to sell it tomorrow.

That thing could have a brand new engine from Toyota and still book out the same.

Look at it this way, if you buy it today for 10K and total it tomorrow, insurance will only pay at most book value...usually lots less.

Thanks for all the info, i think im just going to let that one go. As much as Id like that one, I cant see spending that much on it. Plus my tranny is starting to act normal again.... For the time being. My dad wants me to buy a car, but I cant see myself driving a car. How am I going to haul all my school supplies around? During the week Im going to be driving around and stopping to look at any cars that might be for sale. The guy at the dealer told me yesterday, "toyotas hold their value really well." I was thinking to myself. Not that well. He said its a different market or something. That guy was pretty arrogant and didnt want to talk to me. He pushed me out the door and went home. Thanks for all the info again. Just another question, If I found one with a V-6 and 5 sp, how reliable is that combo?

Dan

From the sounds of that , you don't want to do business with him anyway. Everything that came out of the guy's mouth is a bunch of BS; miles are miles, Yotas or no; bank's looking if you need the least bit of financing at all, for ANY vehicle.

The 3.0's had head gasket issues; you didn't mention the year of this one. If it's a 3.0, take the VIN to the dealer and see if the head gaskets were taken care of or not.

Sometimes you need to just buy a car; take it this is your first one? Get over it if you can't find a reliable TRUCK. Sheet, how much junk you have anyway?

Don't get your knickers in a knot; don't let your Dad pressure you into buying a heap.

$10k for that truck is way too high - guess you figured that out already (i'd say $5-6k would be reasonable if it is good shape and has documented maintenance). The 94 xtracab 22re is probably one of the better trucks Toyota made (an 85 xtracab with 22re might be best pickup Toyota made, but the 94 gives it a good run for the money), my biased opinion. This got me thinking what my truck would be worth. 94 xtracab, 5spd, manual hubs, 4.88 gears, ARB locker front and rear, ARB bumper with 9000lb Warn winch, safari snorkle, Budbuilt crossmember and skidplate, dual batteries, aluminum cap, custom bed storage, 33x10.5x15 bfg mt/km on black steel wheels, plus things I probably forget. Used hard, but well maintained. A little rust on tailgate, rear bumper shot, some minor dents, otherwise very solid. It might be worth $6-10k, depending on how motivated I was to sell it - I'm not motivated but if somebody offered me more than that in cash I'd probably sell it.
