Help...Still Can't Fix Passenger Seat Cable #509628 10/05/04 02:53 AM

Got the seat out of the 4Runner. With lots of various cables in hand, I tried ta fix the release mechanism that lets the seat slide forward when folded forward. No can do!
Not even my FSM tells ya anything. There has to be a place where the cable attaches to the seat-back mechanism so that it will actuate the cable when the seat is folded foward....wish I could take pics and show everyone.

Got the seats used and the passenger came without any cable hardware. Right now I just put in a cable that attaches to the seat-rail release mechanism...you would have ta reach under the seat and yank+twist to make it work...very less than ideal since my girlfriend uses that seat when we go camping

Thanks,
shaggy

Here's how my '85 seat/cable is set up (factory cable):

Thanks for the pick. The mystery is "where does the single cable attach" as it runs up to the seat-back (single cable in upper left of pic).

Thanks,

Roger, how would you reccomend fixing the cable setup if there are NO cables on the seat?

You can buy a new cable from Toyota, the p/n was posted on a recent thread. Or you can try to make something to work out of bicycle brake cables I soppose.

Thanks Roger. Those pics did the trick. I was looking at the wrong side of the seat for the cable insertion. Now girlfriend should be happy camping this weekend.

Camping this weekend? Dang, real hardcore outdoorsman arent you Dan? Cold and damp enough up here in Washington...I can only imagine what its like down in the land of sky blue waters.....errr wait...wrong commercial huh? But then again, cold nights can make for awfully cozy sleeping arrangments.

I have to fix the cable on my 4Runners passenger seat. Both seats were messed up when I acquired it...go figure.

Drivers side was fixed with a little creative "what-do-i-have-around" ingenuity. Passenger is gonna need a new cable. Tried swapping one out of the 81' celica, but they were too different to make work. Gonna have to bite the bullet and go OEM...good thing about it is no more chewed up fingers from reaching under and yanking things when they are spring loaded.

I replaced my '87 Runners passenger seat cable with a brand new one from the dealer. I think it was $32. They had it in stock.

$32 is a decent price for such an oddball part...instock would be like icing on the pecan pie!

Think I'll call BobBridges and see if Rog has got one. Hell Heartland Toyota will try convincing me I need a new seat or worse...a new 4Runner! Thieves I tell ya...all trying to hold me down!
