Body Damage is Cool
I called the local Dodge dealer today, looking for 4.875 gears.
I had them look it up for a 87 Dodge Raider. I was told they only listed 4.625, and they were not available.

What I have read here on the wire ,is that they came in High altitude models. High Altitude models of what? Are they available for the 2.6? Has anyone ever seen a high altitude model?

PowerRam50 you found a set, What were they in?

I really need to find a set of these gears, As I can not get 4.625 for the front of my truck.(Dana 30) But I can get 4.88

Well on my way to becoming that eccentric old man in every town.(crazy as a s#@thouse rat) With a yard full of desireable old vehicles that tells you, Sorry they're not for sale..... Someday I'm going to fix them.

I will try to look it up for you later tonight, or at the latest tommarow morning. I will get you a part number either way.

The 2wd '86 Ram50 I had was a high-altitude model...but I'm not sure what differentiated it from the low-altitude models, though presumably it was stuff like carb jetting and timing. I don't think the gearing was any different (it had great highway gearing) but then, it was only a 2wd.

I've always heard that the 4wd trucks and Monteros (high-altitude) had the 4.88 gearing, but I've nothing to support it.

Thanks I wll try those #'s at the dealer tomorrow.

With the 3.90s and 33's I have not been past 3rd gear yet. But it is way slow on take off. I could probably drive all around town in low range.

Thats what I am using!!

AND BobShaw has 4.56's in the rear(toyota Axle), and 4.62's in the front.

Not enough difference to matter!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Curtis, If that works OK then I may just have to go that way.
I already have a 4.625 with a LSD sitting on the ground. I may save the LSD and just put a lincoln to the rear. Or save even more and lincoln the front too. This truck is going to be trail only,And Im sure that I will break it soon enough.
