Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ive found a 85.5 starion intercooled with rear posi for 1300 obo . Would this be a good doner year to use on a monty/raider? And will the rear lsd fit in the front of a monty/raider? If there are better years to use please let me know. As far as i know the car is a daily driver and runs excellent. thanks for the input guys.

Probably,
The rear LSD will fit but I am not sure whether it fits a 4 cyl or V6 Raider/Monty. The 83-84 Starion LSD fits the 4 cyl diff and the 87-88 fits the V6 diff. All fit the smaller 4 cyl axle splines. If it is the larger LSD like the 87, you may need to change front diffs.

Depends on what you want.

I'm no expert like some of the turbo guys, but you will get the most horsepower out of an 88-89 set-up - up over 200. That's what I'm using.

There will be a substancial power gain using any of the StarQuest set-ups.

And you're doing right buying a donor car. I did mine piece-meal and it has taken way the hell too long. There is a definite advantage to being able to take apart before you put back together.

87 Montero, bought new, by me -
88/89 intercooled Starion Turbo engine-

Ditto to dadrab... The 87 Quest is considered second to the 88-89 and is supposed to be readily upgradeable. Look for HighMountainDesert to chime in as I believe he has a collection of SQs spanning different years, though I don't know what ones he has swapped in.

FWIW, the $1300 doesn't sound bad, I suppose. But if you are planning on rebuilding the engine... I got my 87 with a boat load of extra parts, non-running (but reported to have been before he pulled the head ) for $750. Since I was planning on rebuilding the engine, the lower the price the better for me. There was no value in a running car, as long as it was "runnable."

the quest I got my engine out of is still sitting in the junk yard, and I know he will give me anything I want for a cheap price... and I am going back there to collect a few parts I left behind such as the fuel pump, ECU and stuff... while I am under there I might be able to grab the LSD...
I have a 4cyl so an 88 LSD isnt much good to me

after all the guy did give me what looks to be like a rebuilt motor and all the parts I need for the turbo swap for only 300 bucks...
