Why you think its bad? When you put your hand over the tailpipe while at idle...do you feel pressure from the exhaust pipe?
220K miles aint chit. Hell I had over 220K on my 88's cat when I pulled it, looked as good as new! Nice white honeycomb from one end to the other. I bolted it onto my 87 4Runners exhuast and its still going strong.
If ya wanna toss away good money go buy some bling for you rig. I hear a carbon fiber shifter and some of them racing pedal knock offs will add an easy 50 HP <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
