Getting the Wheeling Fever
Dealer took delivery of it at noon today, and I was the first driver, only 4 miles on her!

The good:
Looks better in person than in photos
Drives Very smooth, nothing like my 94 reg cab 4x4
Also handles very well for a truck
Very roomy inside; One of the only vechicles I've driven where the seat doesn't have to be all the way back. I still had 4-5 clicks! (6'1")
Bed looks/feels pretty rugged

The Bad:
Auto tranny bites ass (must confess I don't like any autos though <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />)
Not as quick as I expected 246hp to be (The auto wasn't helping)
$30K+ price tag. I asked about a 4x4 access cab 6spd. They have a sr5 comming in soon. Price still $27,500 msrp. According to the pricing i've seen, that thing would have to be gold plated.... Obviously they arern't considering dickering yet. Maybe I'll wait 'till the hype dies down.....

Overall, very nice truck it's an improvement over the current gen in my opinion. Better than the competition. I'll wait till I can drive a 6spd before I make my final decision. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I've just about fallen in love with that '05 Tacoma from what I've read and seen in pics. From an Offroad point of view (not that someone would probably want to take such a nice truck to the bush), I was wondering about something. My Taco is just about at the limit for me as far as wheelbase lenght and weight is concerned. Would the extra 5" in wheelbase and extra weight be a big deal? Any comments?

Well, I'll say this. I have a T100 and the 05 Tacos seem to be almost the same exact size and I have no complaints. A fullsize chevy ford or dodge would be to much for me though.

Size increase is a personal issue - if the areas you go are friendly to the extra size, if your city driving is amenable to it, if you need the space, etc etc then it's an easy decision.

That's exactly why I bought an '04. The SWB std cab is easy zipping around this urban area + parking, will be easier to handle on trails, all of that good stuff.

IMHO the weight increase is a huge issue. Toyota's 4WD's have built their reputation on durability - primarily due to light weight and low power coupled with components overbuilt for the power/weight. This new truck (and 4R) are very heavy - well over 4000 lbs - and quite powerful. I don't think that bodes well for very hard use, but should be fine for street and moderate offroad use. I guess time will tell...........

Isn't that a 6-speed manual... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> I have one of those, but it involves Twin Turbos <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

Yes

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />Yup, but only in the D-cab short bed.
If you go for the D-cab long bed it's auto only. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />
