i think it depends on what exactly you have, the newer 4runners have ALOT of body roll (very top heavy) with the sway disconnected.. well.. i take that back. It will have alot of sway if you have any kind of lift or bigger tires but other then that.. if its a pickup.. fairly stock then it should be fine.

I ran my 96 4Runner without a rear sway bar and it was fine. Front was still connected just because I had not messed with it yet.

My 88 had no rear sway bar to begin with. Now with my SAS I have no front or rear sway bar and it's fine. Although I'm thinking of adding one for when I tow my ATV's and soon my camper.

i kept mine on because i like the fact that none of my 9 other friends have a hope of keeping up with me in the turns. (most dont have sway bars + we drive our toyotas like the gokarts at the track. between the sway bar i have and the 33" tires under a hardly lifted truck im happy. i can wheel everywhere they can and play ferrari too.. this is all they see on an exit ramp...lol

Bought truck in 88 new, two weeks later I didn't have a sway bar or tail gate, a couple months later I had 4.56 gears detroit in back, welded front spiders and 33" BFG M/T's, roll cage, it's been all down hill since then.

88 red shortbed 5" superlift, 35 BFG M/T, 5.29's, detroit r, welded f, LCE EFI pro power package, electric fan, battery in bed, owned since new, 73,000 miles now.

How would a larger truck, such as say...a Tundra... do without SB's...

I would figure the toper heavier it is (real words?) it'd be worse. That goes for the T's too, how would they handle w/o the bars?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I disconnected mine once to see what it felt like on corners. Could hardly tell the difference on curves and corners, even taken at pretty aggressive speeds. Then I turned the wheel hard one way and immediately turned hard the other way, as you sometimes have to do to take evasive action in traffic. It rolled real bad on the second turn of the wheel. I reconneted it. For my truck and my style driving (pretty aggressive and lots of highway miles most of the year) I want it connected. It is fine unconnedted if all is normal, but if I ever have to take evasive action at high speed, I definately want it connected.

I run the Sway away 24.0 mm torsion bars. When I installed them I removed the front sway bar as most of the contact points / bushings were worn and had rusted out hardware. Just a lttle bit more lean than before but much better offroad. Plus I like the clutter free / simplified set-up. I'll never put it back on as long as I have the Sway Aways. Planning for a winch / bumper so they'll be on forever.

I agree with this assesment. Under normal driving no big deal. But in an emergency manuever having it might provide the extra 10% you need to save your life. I'll keep using disconnects, and connecting them as often as possible. Offroad having it disconnected does help, but, it is not like night and day either - on easy or moderate trails I usually don't go through the trouble of disconnecting it (when new they went in and out pretty easy, but after years they don't seem to like going in or out as easily as they once did, or, I'm just lazy). I'm locked both ends so the extra 1" of travel not having a sway bar provides is not that big a deal. Take your sway bar off, see how much extra articulation it gives you, depending on the weight distribution on your rig you might be disapointed.
Bottom line on paved roads you are a little safer having it.
Off road you have a little more flex. Some times all it takes is a little bit to make the difference between getting where you are going and not.

Exactly what I was thinking.

It would suck to wreck your truck due to no swaybar, it would suck a lot worse if someone got hurt. Swaybars are there for a reason and should stay connected on the pavement if possible.
