Im pretty positive Im gonna go with some 4:88's. Anyone know of a good place to pick some up for a good price? 4wheelparts has a good price but Ive heard to stay away from the Genuine Gears. So Im looking for a good deal cause I done spent toooooo much money already.

You could do what I did. Go to CAR-PART.com. For my '85 4Runner, I got a rear diff from a '94 4Runner, and a rear diff from a '92 V6 auto pickup. $150 each. Entire diff, with Toyota 4.88 gears. Both were with ABS, but i just cut the attached cable and left the plug on top of the assy. 1 came from Texas, (shipped for $25). The other from Omaha, again shipped to Phoenix for $25. So, $350 total gave me a stronger diff, gears I wanted, ALREADY SET UP and broke in. For the money I saved, I "ZUKified" them. added an LSD to the rear one, and a lock-rite in the front! Good Luck on your quest!

So, by purchasing just the diffs, is it basically a "plug-n-play" procedure?
I see where you added rear diff from a 90's model to the front. I thought they would be different sizes?

Correect. My '85 is a solid front axle. Your '87 is an IFS. Thanks to 4Crawlers help, rears and fronts (diffs) on solid axle trucks are identical. Almost any REAR diff will fit your rear. Your front is different though (IFS). But the good news, is that swapping your front on the IFS with 4.88 differential assembly is cheaper. $90 and mabe $25 to ship? Plus, they are Toyota gears, already set-up and broke in? You really cant go wrong. I've had both my used diffs (4.88) in for over a year now, and no problems!!

when doing your search on car-parts.com specifiy "carrier" in the search not "differential". It will then give you a list of options to choose from as far as ratio and type. I used a 1993 vehicle for the year so I would be sure to get the 4.88 option. Im not sure what year the 4.88 option started but I didnt get the choice when using 1990 model year.
