Before I forget. Make sure you tell the guys at the yard you buy them from to COUNT THE TEETH. I had to send back a beautiful 4.56 assembly and wait for the 4.88. 39 ring gear teeth, 8 pinion teeth. I have a feeling that the prices will be going up on these if everyone sells out at once!

Good question. On the trail, it never dis-engages. It's always locked. The wheel is harder to turn physically, but not too bad. You gotta turn the wheel farther to get through a "hair-pin" turn, but overall, not bad. With what is gained on the trail with the front locked, the steering is no biggie. It's easier to adjust to the steering, than really getting used to saying, "yeah, no problem, I'll meet you at the top, you better take this "sissy" route.

OK, maybe Im not doing the search correctly. But, Im trying to figure out what all the differences are in these things. I did the search on the front axle and I got back the first page showing prices of $1100.00 all the way down to $90.00. BIG difference. So, how do I know if Im looking at the right thing? Some say for auto, is there a difference? The front search option say with auto disconnecting diff? Honestly, I dont want to dump money on the wrong part and Salvage yard people talk to you like your a dumbass if you dont know the answers to their questions.

Make sure you search for "carrier" not front or rear axle unless you want the whole shebang. You can use either the regular or auto disconnecting diff, you just may have to pull some uneccesary stuff off of it, no biggie. So, to summarize:
You need to search for a "carrier" for a '92-'95 Truck or 4Runner, should be anywhere from $150-$250, any more or less and be skeptical.

So the auto disconnecting diff, is that like limited slip or...?

Nope, ADD is the automatic locking system for 4wd used instead of manual hubs or auto locking hubs.

You can get the ADD set-up. Usually more abundant and cheaper anyways. If you do get these, and you already have manual (dial) locking front wheels, do THIS to the diff before you install. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/coolg.gif" alt="" />
