I dont mind the heat as long as its based on experience or science. Dont bring your emotional attachments to the argument , please. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

I don't know if this is emotional but. I think this filter is not necessary. K&N does just fine, and lets remember and tiny itty microns that might get through are taken care of by engine oil/oil filter. The price is kinda crazy as well.

I wouldnt consider that emotional. But using the same reasoning then why are there more manufacturers than I can count who make the same type paper filter for my vehicle? If Fram makes one why would anyone else bother to make one? I do disagree with the pricing argument tho as my K&N actually cost me more locally then the Green.

In the combustion chamber:
ò Air/Air filter is ABOVE the piston head.
ò Oil/Oil filter is BELOW the piston head.

If you're running oil in the combustion chamber, you've got a problem!

I was gonna mention that but ya beat me to it Wayne.

I am not recommending any filter to anybody. If you have a K&N or paper and like it, keep it. But if you are gonna switch from paper to cotton/oil or need to replace your K&N than this is just another consideration worth looking into, like I made Smiley do!!!!! I've laid hands on a Green filter. It seems like it's a quality piece but, the price is up there. I'm not too sure if the extra cost is worth it.

As far as filtering, Smiley you have taken your truck to Uwharrie several times and taken the air box up and looked at the intake tube (past the filter) and it's clean as a whistle.

They may be the newest and the greatest but comparing different oil/cotton guaze filters is gonna be about the same as comparing the differences in different paper filters. There may be some differences but are they measurable?

What is the goal here? Better filtration? More performance than the K&N? I doubt either will be worth the change. Now if you were talking swapping from the paper and the greeie wasn't twice the price....well maybe.

UOA - used oil analysis. I was considering the K&N as well until I did some searching on the internet. Seems a couple people have done used oil analysis after running and K&N vs. a stock air filter for a couple thousand miles. The UOA checks for the total number of particulates in the oil, including quantitive data (in PPM) of some of the known bad particles. Their summary is that the K&N's *do not* filter as well as a stock paper filter. They *might* be beneficial for increased air flow, but if engine protection is your main concern you should look elsewhere.

I dont think anyones arguing which filters better paper vs. cotton/oil. This is/was a discussion on green vs red. There is some debate, I will try and find it again, that the UOA is not necessarily an absolute indicator that you will damage your engine using a cotton/oil filter. I dont know the answer either.

Don't forget the *other* red filter: SuperFlow
SuperFlow Filter

I wouldn't want increased airflow if it damaged the engine. I'd love to see independant lab comparisons. Filter companies wouldn't.
