Many of you will recall the cover story of Michael WoodÆs awesome Monster Amigo in ORA. --- It was truly a proud day in Isuzudom! (If you missed it, they are in the process of upgrading their website to include all of their past issues, so hopefully it will be available for e-viewing in the near future.)

I had hoped to follow MichaelÆs lead, and submit a story in the next few weeks about our most recent Uwharrie gatheringà Nothing too fancy - just a couple-or-so pages of photos and captions, and a few paragraphs about the incredible bunch of guys and gals that come from all over the east coast and beyond to attendà

Well, if IÆd consulted my Ouiji Board, I might have seen this one comingà

Off-Road Adventures û Feature Story...ie ~ 5th Annual S-10 Extremist Bashö[/i]

Janet introduced me to Mark Hall a couple of years ago û (the founder and present-day big cheese of the Extremists, as well as the head of the Uwharrie Volunteers, and the organizer of their event) û and IÆve run into him a number of times since. --- I think he and I have developed a good enough relationship that I could get away with using BigPoppaÆs little exhaust whistle prank as my chosen form of congratulations.

IÆm actually glad that Uwharrie received the coverage; however, naturally I would have much preferred that it happened within an Isuzu story instead.

In a related SIDE NOTE:
Just to satisfy my own personal curiosity, could someone offer a bit of fact checking/confirmation on the lead photoÆs caption:

The S-10 Extremists have adopted trails around Uwharrie and picking up abandoned carcasses is one duty they gladly take on. When you go to the bottom of Cherokee Hill on the Dutch John Trail, you wonÆt find this sorry K5 Blazer any more. Within a couple of weeks of the Blazer being abandoned and stripped, the Extremists had hauled the corpse away. During the bash, an onsite survey was done and a week or so later, a team had come up to do the deed.

I know that the vehicle in question was abandoned on Dutch John (the ExtremistÆs adopted trail), and that it was there at least as far back as July, and that it was still there in October. --- I also know that our very own Joe Darlington returned the weekend after our ISUZUwharrie event to assist in its removal, and that it was actually Janet Becker who prearranged, organized, and oversaw the independent project.

I hope this isnÆt perceived as sour grapes, but I think itÆs exceedingly unusual that Janet received absolutely no acknowledgement or due credit for her active involvement, whatsoeverà nor any mention of her UwharrieInfo.us website/message boards. --- An Isuzu write-up certainly would not have contained such blatant omissions.

Oh wellà With the advent of this story, I seriously doubt that ORA will be interested in covering any more Uwharrie-related stories for quite some time to come.

--- Back to the drawing board.

Cheers!

Either trees in your area grow at 75* angles to the ground..... or they are trying really hard to make this shot more impressive than it actually was

You noticed that too?

Actually, it looks like almost all of the photos were taken with that goal in mind.

The funny thing is, while the trails of Uwharrie aren't really that difficult, there are still plenty of spots where no photographic trickery is required in order to make an impressionà

I believe that you may be confusing disinterest and/or sullenness with a momentary state of contemplation.

Rumor has it that the young lady in question will quite likely possess her own Rock Buggy within then next year or so (Isuzu-powered, of course! )à

How much do you wanna bet that she was merely daydreaming about it?

Yeahà that, and the timeline sure didnÆt seem very accurate. --- That K-5 carcass was there for several months.

Whatever

The trees at URE grow at that angle, I think it has something to do with the Atomic Power plant near Raliegh Here is a link to the removal pic of the K-5 and there wasn't a S-10 anywhere but in the parking lot!!!

A little old lady once asked me why I have those big heavy bumpers on my truck, I responded "if I bump into something, I win!!" "BTW, I did bump into a Chev Minvan at about 30 MPH...it lost!"

Smiley, if they weren't concerned enough to even spell "uwarrie" correct on the cover, it might be better that "janice's" name is left out.

when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.
