Been there, got the scars. You're not the only one. You're at least one of two...

Make it three.

Been there done that so many times I grew my hair back to hide it. And it's not easy because I'm going bald.

For the money, has anyone tried electric? I'm wondering if they move enough air especially with A/C and summer temps of over 110 degrees F?

Body Damage is Cool
Add one more to your list of scarred heads from the hood latch. I am short but still hit my head when I crawl up into the engine compartment to reach something.
Just a note. I attached a pull cord(made from a coat hanger) to my latch release. The pull cable on the older ones fail. After an expensive repair on my 10 year old S10, I added the coat hangers to all my cars.

...Two scrapes on the head from the vampire like hood latch.
Dam I need to invent a cover for that latch when raised or just remember to remove when working on the Montero....

Vampire like is right as mine has definitely drawn blood! -0- hair here. And I'm about 6'2". [smack] #$@#%&[/smack]

I have a short piece of hose, heater hose maybe, that I slide over that stalactite. I just set it on the latch plate when not in use. Tuck it right behind there where the latches themselves drop in. It seems to stay in place just fine. Of course I still have to remember to stick it on...

I've discovered over the years that I tend to slow my head down and look around the engine compartment in interesting patterns as I get older. I've looked around the shop and noticed that the other guys do the same thing. Not many getting beat up by the hoods anymore but we all look weird I'm sure and it's not something we are aware of doing.

Kinda funny.

Clay the electric fan cools a 360 in high 80's weather easily. So I imagine a little V6 will be easily handled.

Vampire hoodlatch cure.

OK guys I took an old bicycle tube cut it into a piece 6 inches long and glued one end shut. Punched a hole side of an open end and put a piece of shoestring (white and long) through the hole. Then I slide my latch "condom" over the latch and tie it on leaving a chucnk of string hanging to remind me its on (saves the head and ruining the MKII ). So now you all owe me a beer for saving you one more trip to the Emergency room for stitches.

Maccka thanks for the idea. I will check that out next time I am under the hood. Yes, I do move my head in odd circles trying to avoid a fresh scrape. Of course it always when you get distracted. Seems like you could reverse the latch with a catch on the hood and the latch underneath.

I dipped my hood latch in that rubber coating stuff, red for more visibility. And the 3" body lift helps this problem also.

If you drive off road at 5 mph and have dirt in your AC radiator, and have an automatic tranny the electric fans might not do the job. On the highway they are fine. I think that Be-cool may be better than flex-a-lite

Roll Me Over
You guys got me laughing on this post. I have a nasty scar on my bald head from smacking it on *many* Montero latches. I finally reached the point where I pull out my 10mm deep socket first thing and REMOVE the little devil from the hood until I'm finished!!

no joke!
