truck is diff. i drive it for about 10-15 miles @ 70 mph and temp gauge starts going to middle. when i slow down, temp goes down to normal level. coolant drains but not to reser- voir. no leaks found. is this pointing to hg too?

As the gasket fails, it might first fail to where the higher pressure combustion gas blows into the cooling jacket. That's why it will force your coolant out of the radiator into the reserve tank.
Once it's really good and blown, and after you refill the rad, it will also suck coolant into the combustion chamber on the intake stroke....the coolant burns and smokes white......Or, once the engine is stopped, the pressure in the cooling system will force coolant into the now depressurized cylinder where the gasket is blown or head is cracked, and then it will smoke when started and also blow into the radiator.
For the guy with the blown HG on the7mge....that's a common failure for that engine....It ain't no cheap fix when compared to the 22re. So you really should do some homework before you do it or have it done to make sure it stays fixed.

When I had problems with a partially clogged radiator, I would get that type of symptom. Engine started to run hot/overheat if it was hot outside (75F+) and speed > 65 or RPM > 3500. If I slowed down on the flats or if on a hill and shifted to a higher gear (lower engine revs) the temperature would drop. New 3-row radiator and it was fine.

Don't forget to change your oil, Juuuuust in the off chance you might've gotten some contamination. Any milkshake on the oil cap?

Gurgling sounds when revving the engine (w/ the heater valve open) were always a sign when I had HG leaks. NEver saw oil-coolant mixing. All the times I had this type of problem, it was always an exhaust->coolant leak except the initial time when it was a cracked head, in this case there was also coolant->exhaust leak and I would get lots of white smoke. But mainly it was the case of exhaust gas over-pressurizing the cooling system (and that exhaust gas making the gurgling sounds) and blowing the coolant out the overflow.

Geez, a gurgle, sounds to me like it's simply just an air bubble <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />. I know just having air in the system you'll get all kinds of wierd chit going on. Iffin it wasn't for that smoke coming out of the exhaust, I'd say get the booble out.
