I purchased a used Jacobs Ignition for my 3.0 this last week. I didnt get the secondary trigger that was supposed to be in the box so I thought I would try and get things hooked up with out it. At this point everything works except my tach, it gets a little crazy when I get abve 2k RPM's. I think the problem lies in tapping into the wires between the igniter and the coil and some how I have changed the load. I thought I could run with the factory coil unplugged but it wont fire unless I have the factory coil plugged in to keep a load on the igniter. My temp solution was to just ground the coil lead and leave it plugged in.
Has any one had this problem before? Do you think putting a fixed or variable resistor in place of the coil would work? allowing me to change the load on the igniter and keep from having my OE coil fire all the time.
I guess Im just fishing for advice here <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
