20+ years ago I worked for a company that did a lot of bumper-pull and gooseneck trailer repairs. I learned that most trailer leaf springs break on rough roads with no load. Seems they can really bounce and break easier when not under load.
You might try keeping some weight in the back of your truck. It will improve the ride and traction at least, and might save on the springs.
