I did the emery cloth thing a while back, and it helped quite a bit. I got pretty aggressive with it, but I think it needs a bit more. On a more positive note, my kids are 10, 8, and 6, and they all know to straighten the seatbelt and make sure it is fully retracted before they shut the door.
