Was the 3.2L DOHC and SOHC engine installed in the 1994 Trooper? Are both called the 6VD1?


1997 Wrangler TJ 5 speed, 2.5 L. Mostly stock except for 31x10.50's on Black Rockcrawler Rims.
1998 Wrangler TJ 5speed, 4.0L. Rusty's 3.5 " lift,33"BFG,4.10 gears,Novak transfer case shifter

yeah, you could have either. the DOHC should say DOHC right on the top of the intake manifold, though. and the TB is pointing toward the front of the engine.
I believe both are called 6VD1...I've seen them listed with a superscript 1 or 2 to differentiate between SOHC and DOHC.

The single cam motors are 6VD1 and the twin cam units are 6VD1-W.


1995 Trooper LS auto 3.2 DOHC /w SOHC intake
1989 Trooper 2.6 auto
1989 I-Mark RS DOHC 1.6
1991 Stylus XS DOHC 1.8

I'm pretty sure that all the RS's have a DOHC. As for the LS and S, I have no idea how Isuzu made that decision. You can tell on the VIN what a truck has by the 8th number/letter. If it is a V - 6VD1-V SOHC, and if it is a W - 6VD1-W DOHC.

Thanks guys, I found the engine designation in the VIN last night--it is a V --SOHC.....
