torque value for 3.0L cam bearing caps? #529514 11/23/04 04:44 AM

Being as how the FSM for my truck doesn't go into detail for internal engine components, I don't have the torque value for the cam bearing caps. I'm sure I can get by with the wrist-o-meter, but if any of you have the 3.0L engine manual, could you post it for me?

Thanks

Gotta run out in the garage and grab it... I know those pages are kinda greasy... back in a bit...

Edit: Okay, here it is: bearing cap bolt: 55-61 ft/lbs.

Oh, in the "service points of reassembly" they want the following tightening sequence:
From the front of the engine there are eight bolts... They are in this order: (picture the front of the engine being at the bottom of the *picture*

(back of engine)

5---------6

1---------2

4---------3

8---------7

(front, timing belt side)

Tighten in the order of the bolts, 1 first then 2, etc. Oh, then "check that the crankshaft turns smoothly." I think you 've got that one already, eh?

Good luck!

PHIL

WHOA PHIL.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lets not get too excited here. The cam caps are torqued to 14 to 15 ft.lbs./9 to 21NM.
Sure hope you didn't torque your caps to that ol' buddy.

Thanks guys!

I wouldn't dare torque that tight into aluminum!!! The tightening sequence is very helpful, though.

Oops. Yeah, apparently I don't read too carefully. Sorry dude. But I guess when you're looking at an M8x70 bolt, you're gonna know that 50 or 60 pounds of torque is gonna send it into orbit, eh? <cough cough> [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

But IF you happen to be looking for the main bearing cap bolts anytime soon, heheh [Linked Image] you know where to look.

Oh, GOODY!

Are we going to get to argue about torque and torque wrenches again?

If he doesn't have the socket coaxial with the bolt so that the path taken by the socket is an ellipse, does the torque vary in a sinusoidal curve?

I think I'll go to the garage now before I start some
