Radial vs. bias ply tire construction.

Off-road, bias ply is better, stronger, thicker sidewalls, ability to wrap tread around the sidewalls, less bounce/wheel hop.

On-road, radials are better, less rolling resistance, longer tread life, smoother ride.

Bias ply tires are prone to flat spotting, my old Swampers took a few miles of driving to warm up to where you could not feel the flat spots from even a short stop. In cold weather it was even worse.
