 Radial Vs Bias ply

Ok, I know radials are the latest technology in tires, give the best ride bla bla bla. I'm not to educated on what exactly is a radial, and what's the difference(s) between them and a Bias Ply. Only bias ply tires i've ridden on were in a 68 Pontiac GTO (& buses). 100 miles on the interstate for a car show with my friend. Rode fine to me.... felt like a normal car. Now how much of a difference would there be between a 36" TSL bias ply & TSL radial? that's what it comes down to. also which one will last longer?

Radial vs. bias ply tire construction. Off-road, bias ply is better, stronger, thicker sidewalls, ability to wrap tread around the sidewalls, less bounce/wheel hop. On-road, radials are better, less rolling resistance, longer tread life, smoother ride. Bias ply tires are prone to flat spotting, my old Swampers took a few miles of driving to warm up to where you could not feel the flat spots from even a short stop. In cold weather it was even worse.

Ok. now i'm up to par. Well I think i should go with Radial TSL's b/c i drive quite a bit. I'm trying to find out the weight of some INterco tires. Can't seem to get that spec anywhere. how much does a 36x12.50x15 TSL bias and TSL radial tire weigh??

don't waste your time with radial TSLs. they really aren't a true radial, and they're very heavy. if you want a radial swamper, get iroks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I've been impressed with what I've seen iroks do in the mud, and stay away from the radial tsl swampers. I ran a set of 36x14.50 and was not impressed at all. SSR has a tighter pattern so I'm just thinkning it wouldn't clean as well. But then again I've never seen a set that size in action.

As far as I know boggers do the best in mud. At least what I have seen
I know a guy who buryed his lifted jeep cherokee to the 1/2 point in the doors in a swamp and he got out with his 33x12.50 boggers.
The rest of us tried the same thing and we all got stuck.
We all were locked and all had mud tires too. One guy had 32x11.50 BFG MT KM's. I had 33x12.50 mud king XT's.

A rather funny pic, but this is the best shot of the tires I could find... no good for road use, but nothing better for mud. The ag tires are not DOT approved. There are a lot more options as far as lug size/spacing for 16".
My '86 4Runner went to the bone-yard November 29, 2004 at 10am after roughly 430,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. :-( Looking for something else to wheel in...
