That sounds good. This morning, I had the stumbling/surging issues again...So, it's not related to my fuel system, as it now has a new FP and the filter if farely new. Maybe I'll take some pics of my Evap, and that will help us visually. I'll try to do so tonight. Thanks again for the offer. Gotta get this fixed, and this will set my mind at ease, and hopefully at least eliminate a possible cause. I have an ex that has a 2000 4runner, and I'm trying to convince her to let me have it for a night. I figure I can swap sensors one at a time and that will be the best diagnostic route I can do without being able to connect to the ECU.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a FSM for a 98. It has good diagrams of the purge system. My purge canister was crushed in the rollover, so I fabbed up a system using the 94 canister. The VSV's click on and off rapidly and do sound like pinging - maybe that's what you are hearing. This could also be the cause of your idle/surge issues.

I can scan the pages and post/email them to you.

I've labled the evap hose locations. It seems that the evaps are so different thruout the years and models of the 5VZ.

I have "A" hooked up to the air filter box.
I have "B" going to the VSV located in the rear of the intake.
I have "C" just open. I think it's the drain. I don't have any hose hooked up to it.
I have "D" going directly to the gas tank (vent)

What's everybody think?

That's a funky looking purge canister Welly. What model and year is it from?

One thing you could do is unplug the VSV at the engine so no purge gas enters. If the truck runs fine, it's the purge system. If not, it's something else. (You will get an MIL from unplugging the VSV)

Also, pull the B hose off and make sure it is not pulling vacuum when the VSV is unplugged. If so, it's the VSV. I believe the VSV at the engine pulses on/off to regulate the purge flow.

I'm curious about C, but not sure what it is.

Nobody can confirm the hose hookups, even with these pics? Anybody?
