am I safe in assuming that as a drop-in for a 12-bolt, it will also be compatible with 4.77 gearing? - would this just need a change of carrier?

If it is the same style locker as a Lock-right/aussie locker/etc, then it will just replace the 'innards' of your existing carrier. No need to swap the ring gear over to another carrier, or really touch it in any way for that matter. The only difference may be if you have the factory LSD. IIRC, the D44 'lunchbox lockers' are different depending on whether or not you have LS (spacers are needed). If this locker becomes a reality, it may have the same issue. Meaning those with LS would either have to get spacers machined or hunt down an open differential to swap in.

Maybe if we know ahead of time that this will be an issue, the company that makes the locker could provide the spacers and then people that need them can use them and others don't have to. There's a few people volunteering their open diffs for this project, anyone have an LSD carrier they'd be willing to donate to the cause?

search in Isuzu Tech for Bansil's thread on making spacers for his D44 locker if you're not getting what I am saying.
