[quote]Old trick..........disassemble rocker shafts.....rotate shafts 180 degrees and reinstall. May have to drill/tap holes for lock screws.

>>>*....Uhhhh.....(*I wouldn't do that if I were you, look at where the oil holes are....).. .*EB

Thats what I was thinking....figured I leave my $1.93 out of it though since Im such a young pup and all....ya know. LOL

~Darin

I've seen it done on old 'merican iron.....If it wasn't for EB offering reasonably priced rocker shafts, a lot of us would be doing it to our Toys.....It's when the shaft has deep groove that you gotta worry, it can break there once flipped over.

Yeah, the oil holes are a concern. They need to be properly located.

Roll Me Over

>>>*Problem is simple. The shafts are unique left to right. The lube holes align with the spacing for the rockers.

If rotated upside down, it puts the oil holes on the wrong side of the arm, cuts oil flow to the arm, cam dies in short order...(I know, that is how "their" camshafts become "MY" camshafts again...*LOL**)

One side can be reversed, OOPS. Yep, now we oil the top of the head nicely. Some aftermarket shafts can be installed upside down, I know about that one too, gets me angry phone calls and they become "Mine" again.

*Worked great on the old 272" Fords, dang, I didn't realize how old Yodaddy is....

*Funner ones is the head rebuilder who sticks a .060" thick shim under the valve spring to "compensate" for the valve grind and spring heat set...

*That works nice...to get the cam and rockers in about 500 miles...The email ALWAYS says, "YOUR cam failed in only...(add mileage here) I am thinking of sending this out as a form letter to save time..There are a lot of good machine shops out there, but there sure are a lot of....*Uhhhh...

I am thinking of writing a tech article called "DON'T"....

Maybe post it on the website...? Maybe here, too?...

Oh heck, fishing is calling, getting close to SPRING CHINOOK!!..

Yo! Time for a vacation, come on out! Darin and I will let you row...(Bring the wife...)....heehee..

*K...I get it in the neck for this one, right?..One more week of mayhem and I am OUTA here...going on vacation for 10 days...I will worry about the dang cheap dollar to Japan and Europe when I get back...*Assuming I come back...*LOL**.....*EB

*Beats the he** outa me!....*LOL**...

Oh yeah, EB....I know all bout old Ford 292's.

Remember the mushroom shaped lifters? Twice I had to slap myself for not installing them BEFORE I installed and torqued the crankshaft! Those were the days we used overhead oilers on those old rocker shafts.

"Vacation"? What is that?....Ain't never had one.

I'm on 12 days leave starting today, but I'll spend it fiddling around the house. Gotta pull the engine on my new '69 GMC truck and get it on the stand....first gotta clean out the shop and insulate it....install heat tape on the water pipes out there, run 100 amp service for the welder, then hang drywall and move all my junk back in....

May be moving the wife out first tho....she's committed the cardinal sin....got 3 credit cards and run them up buying xmass stuff. She ain't keeping the house clean...Told her last night to find herself an apartment...I don't need it, won't put up with it. Together we make 100K/yr and don't need credit cards....She sneaked out last July and bought herself a new car, then sneaked the credit cards...now she is in hock well beyond her 16K income and expecting me to bail her out....Nope, not this guy....Been there, done that twice....That's why never a vacation in 51 years.
