Hino (an affiliate? Can't tell if they're owned by Toyota.. but they're linked somehow) is working on a 3/4ton diesel/electric hybrid that's supposed to get in the 30's for gas mileage. It's supposed to be released (the powerplant) in Japan for '06... might make it to the US sometime before 2010.

And a hybrid FTX is supposed to follow the main launch by a year or two (but it's a gas/electric model).

Personally, I bought the T100 because it WASN'T a full size. It fits my needs perfectly (I'm a big guy, don't fit into Tacos comfortably) and even my wife feels comfortable in it. Shoot, I've put 17k miles on the thing in the past 7~8 months and suspect that I'll do the same in the next 7~8 months... hard to do that with a vehicle that's a bad fit.
