These HGs are known for failure, as well as the #6 exhaust valve.

I said it, too...

Shippin that 3.0L in my garage will run you a few hundred $$'s. Several people have inquired about it. All have walked away due to the shipping costs.

I just don't want to have to deal with the thing...not even crating it and all the parts. It's easier for me to throw it in the back of a pickup and drop it off at a junk yard. If you can have it packaged and picked up, it's yours.

DRTDEVL, you were right on target! Too bad there wasn't any money down on the diagnosis, eh?

93CoRunner, I appreciate the offer, but as it turns out, my engine is fine.

Who is BM? I was going to ask if you took your rig to Precision Toyota or not; they've been under the gun lately. Bought my 86 off the lot over at Desert Toy.

'BM' is BrakeMax,which really should be "FM" for "FAKE-Max" because they
*single overhead cam*, in other words, they *SOHC*!!

I was over at Precision. They were nice, but told me it'd cost me a grand just to find out if my problem was the result of an improperly done V06 campaign HG job (apparently in the early days, they still hadn't gotten it right, and there were a few that were actually covered *twice* under the service campaign).

When I finally found somebody trustworthy who'd tear down my heads without forcing me to sell a couple of organs for money, Precision was very helpful in giving me advice about parts to replace like bearings and gaskets and so on.

Among other things, they urged me to always:
Quote
Ask us for a price before buying aftermarket parts...
because

Toyota parts are not always more expensive...
they asserted. Well, I'm replacing my old radiator, which was patch-welded at one time but leaking, and Precision quoted me the "not always more expensive" price of $645 dollars. Without the cap. Damn. Needless to say, that's Not happening!
