I wheel and "88 x-cab and its really not a big disadvantage for me. Yes there are times when a standard cab would be nice, but i am 6' 1" and i get pretty uncomfortable in a standard cab. The space behind the seat is nice to put stuff you dont want out in the weather too.
BUT... there is quite a big difference in length between the older x-cabs like mine with no rear seat, and the '89 and up x-cabs with a rear seat. I have freinds who wheel these newer x-cabs and there are times the wheelbase definitly gives them trouble.
I rarely have problems with getting high-sided because of my wheel base. Although it definitly helps that i have a suspension lift and most people i wheel with have body lifts.

If you get a LWB toyota do a suspension lift!!!!!!
