Getting the Wheeling Fever
Has anyone been able to get a nice rumble from a Gen I V6 3.0 using a modified exhaust? I need a new exhaust system anyways so I figured I might try to get a nice sound out of it, as well as a few more horsepower.
It's hard not to get jealous when an American V8 with a Flowmaster rumbles past. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/mrt.gif" alt="" />

I would try a glasspack followed by a 50 series flowmaster. That should give you a little rumble without being obnoxious. If it were mine I would run one large and one small flowmaster. But then I want the tone but I don't want the noise.

Now that I think about it, I would way rather have active noise cancellation. Wouldn't that be cool? A gas powered rig that has NO exhaust noise!

6 cyl engines (particularly L6s) make a great sound with a dual exhaust setup, but unfortunately the gas tank is in the way on our trucks and you'd have to run side pipes - not a good idea for off-road unless you could let them exit above the frame rails.

Generally, using the next size smaller (of the same type) than stock muffler will make more sound. By "same type" I mean whether it's an offset or straight through, with/without internal resonator, same inlet/outlet size, etc.

I have no cat and a flowmaster with 2 1/4 pipes on my 4 door. Loud sometimes but quiet at hwy speeds. Doesnt bother me. No muffler on my raider, but still have cat. That is pretty loud, annoying for any length of time.
