I got a question for all you trail hounds. I'm looking for a good spot to mount my Hi Lift in my 91YJ. I don't have any racks or aftermarket bumpers or the like. I bought a 4xRac tonight, and really don't want to mount the jack in front of my bumper. Mounting on the rear bumper isn't an option, due to a receiver hitch being in the way. Anyone ever mount their jack on top of their front bumper?

i have seen that, some guys i wheel with have drilled 2 holes through their rear roll bars and mounted it with bolts across the rear roll bars, i have mine in the back behind the seat in a highlift bag. it works but i have a little more room back there than a yj does.

If you have to stock front bumper you can mount it there. You can either get some plates they sell the bolt onto the bumper or you can fab some. Its lays on its side. I will get a picture of mine in the morning and post it. Or you can mount it on the back bumper pointing up. You bolt it to the bumper and weld a bar to also attach it to the spare tire mount.

I mounted mine inside the cab just behind the seats using 2 brackets that bolt to the floor [or on top of a bumper if you like] and it stays clean and dry.

How much luck do you guys have using that tractor jack on flimsy jeep bumpers? I'd have to weld some jack perches on my jeep before I would be comfortable jacking it up with one of those. Don't get me wrong I have one of em. But I also have a tractor Big Jim

I've used mine plenty of times, and haven't had a problem with "flimsy" bumpers at all. Last winter we got hung up in my cherokee when we slid off a trail into deep snow. We just jacked it up with the hi lift and pushed it sideways off of the jack to move it back onto the trail. It took several repetitions , but the bumper sustained zero damage. The bumper on my YJ seems a heck of a lot stouter than the one on my cherokee.
I'm leaning towards mounting the 4xrac on top of my bumper, up front. I just need to make sure I can get the mounting plates to fit o.k. on top of the bumper. Hopefully I won't have to remove the front bumper to mount the rack. I've also considered mounting it on top of my hard top, but I'm reluctant to drill holes in my top to mount the 4xrac.

ive got a 3x5x1/4 bumper with 2x2x1/4 uprights that i fabbed up front, ive found that mounting the jack behind the uprights is a great spot. these bumpers sale for about $400 so i took a picture of one i liked an fabbed it up for about $50 an had 5/16 plate braked to fit outside frame rails for winch plate, their are plenty of holes up front to bolt up brackets so my winch plate an front bumper are all welded into one piece that can be unbolted. i also welded in tow hooks an fabbed tow- bar that is rear tire carrier, when i put my full floater in rear i took old 2 piece axle an cut off about 6" of axle with spindle an welded to towbar so towbar mounts uprite on back an is allways with me if i need it. ive fabbed a bunch of these bumpers in my area an now everybody can use towbar if they need it.
