"Yeah you don't want it to get bent!"
Jeepete, I guess you don't believe the Hi-lifts can get bent . . . I had to borrow another guys Hi-lift several years ago to change out a tire on the trail. He had mounted the Hi-lift on the front bumper and subsequently hit a large boulder for one reason or another; the front bumper and the hi-lift had a substantial bow in them. It was a bit tenuous with the Jeep up in the air, teetering back and forth, with this bowed hi-lift binding somewhat with each crank of the jack-handle! However, I got the tire changed-out without any problems.

I'm an old school trucker. I believe in bolting/securing all equipment down on-road and off-road (just in case). I would not want anything to injure me or others. Safety...Safety...Safety... RoadKill

I was making a joke, hence the .. Fred, another good reason not to mount them on either bumper.

I have only rarely found a use for a tractor jack other than on a piece of farm equipment. I do remember one time in a wheat field when we had a 3/4 ton stuck in some real deep stuff. We had a tractor jack a BFH and a winch! Get the picture? that jack made some deep furrows before it got us out of there. It was useless after that and got replaced with a new one. BJ

Jeepete, you posted just as I opened this thread --- no problem! Just one of the problems of writing --- no one sees the other guys body language. I just wondered if you didn't think hi-lifts get twisted & bent --- no big deal. Maybe we need more instant graemlins to cover every nuance in the american language? I think the important issue is to encourage four wheelers to bolt the hi-lift down. I don't want to read a new thread about one of our own experiencing some type of major mishap due to the hi-lift injurying him, or somebody else.

its been proven that something as simple and light as a tisse box by the back widow of a car can move fast enough in a car accident to kill someone. just imagine what a hi-lift could do BS. myth just like the penny off the empire state building. the amount of force to accelrate it past its terminal velocity in the short distance inside the length of a minivan would crush the thing.

Sunder you don't have to accelerate it it is already going 70 when you stop the envirenment it is traveling in against a bridge post! It (whatever it is) just continues at the same speed till it hits something that will stop it. I do agree about the kleenx box. But a 5lb box of candy would give a huge headache. yes but instantaneous decelrationf rom the front from 70.. i think a klenex box is the least of your worries. next time you have a klenex box handy and you are going 70 twards some solid object... go ahead and toss it. see what happens to the klenex box.
